Adventure is at the core of scouting.

Through adventure we challenge individuals so that they learn and experience new things that will enrich their lives and teach them skills for life.  When a beaver scout wakes up the morning after a sleepover, or a cub scout has confronted their fear of heights, or a young scout leads a hike, that is adventure.

Being involved is exciting and through the adventure of scouting, young people regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives.  Scouting offers a diverse range of activities and opportunities that challenge young people to be the best they can be physically, emotionally, spiritually and morally.  It is this that makes scouting unique.

Our volunteering opportunities are flexible and can easily fit around the time you have available to get involved.

The award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouting as our young people.  Scouting’s quality depends on its volunteers and our volunteers depend on Scouting to teach them the skills they need.  Our modular training scheme delivers the full spectrum of required skills.  Volunteers can choose training modules that are relevant to the role that they do, ranging from leadership to running residential experiences and first aid.

Our training scheme was recognised with a National Training Award from UK Skills.  It is one of the reasons why we have managed to increase our volunteer numbers over the past few years, against the national trend.

Over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives, so we’re certainly doing something right.

And what’s more, by volunteering in Scouting you are making a different in the lives of young people, helping them to develop skills for life and sharing in the great adventure of Scouting with 32 million members worldwide.
