Adult Learning

Adult Learning

The Scout Association training scheme was recognised with a National Training Award from UK Skills, and this means that adults get as much from Scouting as our young people.  Scouting’s quality depends on its volunteers and the volunteers depend on Scouting to teach them the skills they need.

The modular training scheme delivers the full spectrum of required skills that are relevant to Scouting roles, ranging from leadership to running residential experiences and from first aid to supporting all Trustees of the Association.

Getting Started in Scouting…
To support you in your first five months of volunteering with the Scouts are a number of mandatory training modules for you to complete.  The mandatory modules can be completed as independent online learning and validated by successfully completing the assessment at the end of the module, except for modules 03 and 04 which the learning is completed online but needs to be validated by a Training Advisor who sees learners put the online learning into practice.

Training Advisors usually volunteer in your own or a neighbouring Scout Group.

East Norfolk is supported by a Local Training Manager, who can advise on the modules that need to be completed for different roles or the Scout Association website has a handy guide for reference too, The Module Matrix.

Personal Learning Plans
A Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is a way to plan and keep track of training.

If you achieved The Young Leader Belt Award as an Explorer Scout, many of the modules can be validated as part of the adult training scheme, please talk to a member of the Young Leader Training Team.

Follow the links below to access the mandatory training modules.
These five modules are mandatory for the majority of roles within Scouting.

Once you have completed the online training, the certificate needs to be sent to your Training Adviser, Local Training Manager, line manager or to the Training Compliance Volunteer Team who’ll be able to record your completion of this training in Compass.
